How To Keep Your PWC Looking New
Knowing how to clean your PWC properly is important for every jet ski owner to learn. With a little bit of upkeep, you can easily keep it looking brand new for many years after you buy it. A well maintained PWC not only looks better, but it can also help keep its resale value at a maximum. Boat Lift Warehouse understands how much money and time you have invested in your jet ski and the PWC lift it sits on, so here are a few simple tips to clean your jet ski so that you can keep it looking like new and continue to enjoy it as long as possible:
Step 1: Put Jet Skis On Their PWC Lifts And Rinse
First, you want to safely and correctly raise your jet ski on its designated PWC lifts. Even if you don’t have time to wash, dry, and wax it every time, you should hose it off after every use at a minimum. A gentle spray of water washes away dirt, dust, or algae that can wear down the paint over time. It’s okay to use a pressure washer as well, but a garden hose should work just fine. Be sure to wash the footwells since that’s where the majority of dirt will be. Try getting in all of the cracks and crevices!
Step 2: Clean With Soap
Now that all of the surface dirt is rinsed off, it’s time to wash off anything left over. For this step, you can either use car soap or marine soap. Marine soap usually gives the paint more of a shine, but car soap can also clean a jet ski without a problem. Avoid using dish soap because it can damage the paint and strip away wax. Be sure to use a nice microfiber rag to scrub away whatever dirt or algae is left. Avoid using any hard-bristled brushes because they are oftentimes abrasive and damaging. Microfiber rags are preferred since they are much more forgiving on paint.
Step 3: Dry
Next, you will want to wipe all of the excess water off the jet ski with an absorbent microfiber drying towel or rag. Do not let it air dry. Leaving the water to air dry will leave water spots and streaks on your PWC.
Step 4: Apply Wax
Though this last step is optional, we highly recommend it to keep your PWC looking its best! Waxing a jet ski is a simple way to protect the paint and keep it looking nice, just make sure you always clean it thoroughly before waxing it so no dirt gets trapped on the paint. When it comes to waxing a jet ski, don’t cut corners. Invest in some good marine wax if you really want the best results. Liquid wax is recommended, especially for darker colors. Remember, wax should always go on easy and come off easy! Lastly, never wax the bottom of the hull, as some waxes can be abrasive and can cause speed loss when applied to it.
