Kayak Launching Tips from Boat Lifts Eastern NC Experts

Watching kayaks glide gracefully on the water is a beautiful thing to watch. Launching, however… That’s a more difficult task. While this is true, boat lifts Eastern NC experts at Boat Lift Warehouse promise that with these launching tips, you’ll be out there gliding in no time! There are two launching scenarios that you could be faced with:

On a shoreline, where you must straddle the boat before sitting, or
Dock launches, where you must keep your balance as you lower yourself into the kayak.

In either scenario, we’ve got you covered.

Shoreline Launch

If you don’t have access to a boat dock, that’s okay! A shoreline launch is perfectly manageable. Here are the steps that boat lifts Eastern NC experts have created for the easiest shore launch:

Carry your kayak into a shallow spot of water. Your boat should be perpendicular to the shoreline. However, if you’re launching into a river, a parallel launch might work better.
Place one of the paddle blades under the deck line in front of the cockpit. This gives you hands-free movement to ensure an easy launch.
Stand directly over the kayak, straddling the cockpit.
From here, grab the sides of the cockpit. Lower your rear into the seat, then lift your legs and slip your feet into the cockpit.
Make sure that your back is firmly against the back of the seat. Settle both feet comfortably onto the foot pegs.
Grab your paddle, and start your kayak journey!

Dock Launch

Carry your kayak to one side of the dock and place in the water. Your kayak should be parallel to the dock.
While sitting on the dock, dangle a leg into the cockpit of the kayak to keep it close to you during entry.
With both hands on the dock, lower your bottom into the seat. Rotate your torso to the side to maintain balance, and slide your other leg into the cockpit.
Remember to scoot your back against the seat and settle your feet into the foot pegs.
You’re ready to go!
